Program Notes
‘Together and Alone’ was composed for choreographer Julianna Stonebridge’s project “We’ll Meet Again (PATHS),” a dance duet telling the story of two people who share a part of their lives with each other. I had the privilege to work with Stonebridge from the very beginning of the project, watching her choreography take shape as I wrote the music. Together, we shaped her vision into a final product that was influenced by everyone’s creativity—hers, mine, and the two talented dancers. The result is a heartfelt, authentic piece of performance art. We all know the experience of connecting deeply with someone for a season of your life, drifting apart, and finally re-encountering each other after some time and growth. This music is my take on those feelings. I encourage listeners to watch the dance in full so you can absorb all elements of collaboration that went into this project.
