About Me

Erin Giuliano (b. 2001) is a composer, researcher, and music teacher based in North Carolina. She holds a B.M. in piano performance and received her M.M. in composition from University of North Carolina School of the Arts, where she studied under Jared Miller. She plays piano, trumpet, viola, mountain dulcimer, and sings alto/mezzo-soprano.

Erin has taught music at every level of education and across multiple instruments. She has experience tutoring college level music theory and aural skills, teaching piano to students of all ages, and working in music classrooms from kindergarten to high school. Erin sees music as a creative playground that everyone should have access to exploring, and her job as a teacher is to give learners the skills they need to do that.

As a composer, Erin blends the old and the new, drawing inspiration from classical music, folk styles, and contemporary genres like soundtracks and musical theatre. Her experience on five different instruments makes her versatile and adventurous in her writing. She has worked in collaboration with choreographers, film students, and instrumentalists to produce multimedia performance art pieces. Her work has been honored by the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA), winning first place at state level and honorable mention at division level in the 2025 Composition Competition.

Erin’s musicological research centers around women’s history in music. She is most interested in examining how cultural attitudes toward gender shaped the music produced in a given era and what impact that may have had on subsequent musical trends continuing into today. She is also drawn to the stories of individual women in history who are only known to us by a few mentions in the writings of better-remembered men.

Outside of music, Erin has far too many hobbies. She’s an avid knitter, sewist, artist, marathon runner, and lover of the outdoors—and those are only the least obscure ones.
